    February Meeting: The Zero to Hero Journey

    Yosh Han had long dreamed of sailing around the world, but a serendipitous journey crossing the equator on a catamaran from Papua New Guinea to Palau and a pact with Poseidon changed the trajectory of her life. Once a pollywog, Yosh became a shellback after that trip. It was a canon event that shaped the next several years of Yosh’s life becoming a USCG captain and ASA instructor in five years.

  • Good Trouble

    In July 2023, Offshore Racing Outreach put together a team for TransPac, a 2700NM race from Los Angeles to Hawaii. Good Trouble was the first boat of majority minorities in the 105 year history of the race. I was thrilled to be part of the team. We were featured in the Feb 2024 issue celebrating Black History Month. Marie Rogers is the first African American female captain in the history of the race.

  • Scents and Sonics of the Ocean

    Scents and Sonics of The Ocean: Multisensorial traces of lost and recovered memories of Sapelo Island, a project bringing together a perfumer, a sound artist, and a marine scientist to explore the sounds and scents of coastal Sapelo Island. The chemical structures of the scent molecules, via their spectroscopic signatures, became the building blocks for soundscapes of lost and recovered ocean memory: the result is a multisensorial installation that invites the public to learn from, and explore, the intersection of science, scent, and sound.

  • Coast: Scented Diorama

    Captain Yosh is also a perfumer and scent artist. She received a grant from Ocean Memory Project to produce a multi-sensorial art exhibition and artists talk with Marine Scientist and Professor Julia Kubanek and Sound Composer Malte Leander. The three smellscapes and soundscapes were inspired by a retreat they attended on Sapelo Island. Coast, Marsh and Forest were the focus of this collaboration.
